Hi! My name is Heather Taylor with over a decade of photography experience!
I am a passionate light chasing photographer, charcoal artist, and junior-intermediate teacher from Windsor, Ontario. I am also a mommy to two sweet children, a wife to a supportive and loving husband, and proudly, I am a 6th generation granddaughter of freedom seekers who escaped through the Underground Railroad from North Carolina and into Lakeshore, Ontario.
My Mother was the first to inspire and influence me into this beautiful world of photography! She truly photographed every part of our lives growing up. At family gatherings, she was the one ALWAYS holding the camcorder and camera! "Okay, let's get a picture of that and that, and that!" or "Gather around, let's take a picture of everyone here!" My Mom sincerely recognized the importance of documenting people and the details--yes, the details! I mean, honestly, I have photographs of my braces from 1994 - 1997 every time the orthodontist changed up the colour on my brackets (LOL!). I am not kidding when I say, my life, along with my sisters' lives, are totally, completely, and thoroughly, documented, because of her (LOL)! Today, my Mom has a library of albums which gives a detailed perspective about all of us. Picture taking and VHS recording was a big thing in our home, and I don't think any of us thought twice about that during those times. We were just too busy living the moments while she documented our attempts to sing like Whitney, hair bangs, and dingy Club Monaco sweatshirts.
As a 6th generation granddaughter of freedom seekers from my father's side of the family, I grew up hearing a lot about our past. Therefore, I've been able to make an even deeper connection on what an absolute honour it is to freely pick up a camera and document people living their lives and celebrating important events. I am always so grateful to be there to tell anyone's story. For me, photography is one of the highest forms of advocacy because no matter where you're from, I get to capture your world in a 1000 words from just one single picture. In my opinion, photography gives such a deeper and meaningful perspective! My camera is like a winning ticket for a front row seat to document love, togetherness, and of course, the best moments in life! People create these details, but so easily, the whirlwinds of life can make us forgot. Your future ancestors will thank you by smiling and seeing who you were in this world!
Anyway, I hope you read all of this to the end as it may give you a good understanding on why I can't wait to listen to your story and take your picture.
I can't wait to hear from you! Contact me, anytime! I want to be your friend with a pretty cool camera and an eye to capture you at your very best! ;)
